We met with our social worker again. We decided to travel half way so she didn't have to drive all the way in from Atlanta again. We decided to meet at a coffee shop in Lawrenceville. She met with each of us individually and basically asked us a great deal about our history. This included a life timeline - where we grew up, where we went to school, where we worked, etc. We talked about our families, our friends, our communities, our faith, and our philosophy on child rearing and discipline. We also talked about our hobbies, our interests, and our activities. It was a lot of information to share!
Our social worker furiously took notes during our conversations. She told us that she would write up our home study and send it to us for review. We left feeling relieved that the interview process was behind us and that we were moving forward with the process.
Hi, we're Chris and Amy Thompson from Athens, Georgia. Thanks for visiting our blog. We are excited to document our way through our open adoption, connect with other waiting families, and maybe even meet our birthmother. As you read through our blog and look through some pictures, we hope that you get some sense of who we are, and we encourage you to contact us directly with any question you may have... or just to get to know us a little better. We would love to hear from you!

The Home Study
Our agency, the Independent Adoption Agency, let us know that they had recieved all of our paperwork. They assigned us to a social worker that would complete our home study. She contacted us and set up a time to come and visit out home. We were really nervous, but the meeting was actually really relaxed and comfortable. When she arrived, she did a quick look around our home. She simply noted things like how many rooms, how many baths, square footage, etc. that we have in our home. We also told her about the nearby schools, parks, playgrounds, and activities going on in Athens. We also talked about our desire to adopt - why adoption, our philosophy on adoption, what we knew about adoption, etc.
Our social worker was so nice and we felt really comfortable throughout the entire process. Toward the end of our meeting, we let the dogs come down to meet her. They were so excited and made her laugh!!
